I would like to share some slides that I will be using in an upcoming new presentation. I am attempting to impress the vital point that it is so much more the CONTEXT of an injury or pain event that determines the outcome and not the injury or discovered pathology in the region of pain.

This is well explained by the science and is the reason we should stop judging those who fail to improve with our pathology focussed treatments, but use the science and the best model of care to improve their outcomes. To do this we must first recognise that as trusted experts we are a major part of our patients’ pain journey contexts. What we believe can become their entrenched realities. Therefore the fundamental ‘first, do no harm’ principle applies all the way back to simply misinterpreting and misinforming about eg: scan findings and referring for an eg: surgical ‘fix me’ pathway.
